I'm dieing for the fifties right now. Fifities rockers are a win! Specifically, ahem, BUDDY HOLLY. HEART HEART.
Buddy Holly's glasses are beautiful, as is his music:
AND CHUCK BERRY. Yes, i am yelling at you. Because you must love Chuck. For my choral group, we're doing Johnny B. Goode, and it's quite funny to watch the boys doing Chuck Berry's dance moves. Us girls get to do the jerk/the monkey/the pony... YEAHHHH.
Meanwhile, I'm being a square fifties chica in real life... I got a lovely dress for my formal, vintage and only $25! Major score, guyzzzz. Also, I'm now allowed to use the term "square" because I've seen crybaby one and one-quarter times and plan on watching it about fifty bajillion times more.
Seriously, dig this chick:
Answer: Asia. Wait, that's not right. I mean school. Darn you, school, with your large sums of homework, decimating the time I spend blogging (which was already very little, alas.).
I have an Asian outfit for you, though.
My inspiration is, well, asia (duh), but mainly this print from celeste stein:
(sorry it's so tiny)
NOW: onto the outfit
Fat lip thanks to a yellow jacket, necklace, gift: cardi, mum's; shoes, mum's; vest and skirt, thrifted; necklace, gift.
I'm sure that there's a show from NYFW that I could shpiel upon, but I'VE BEEN ON THIS DARN MACHINE FOR HOURS. So next time it is. bye.
My sister is watching the wizard of Oz, and so I felt compelled to modernize the dorothy look a lot. I mean a LOT. Dorothy is barely there in this outfit, but that's how I like it, thanks.
Also, I was thinking forties, Marilyn Monroe, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and sixties retro Twiggy crap. (YES, I DID JUST SAY TWIGGY. again.)
Nope, I'm not that psychedelic.
Hat, thrifted; shirt, gap; purple jumper, who knows; necklace, was my mom's; pin, was my mom's; bracelet, gift; skirt and belt, target; tights, hue; shoes, modcloth.com
Aho. See, I'm way cooler.
My eye makeup was rather DRAMAtic today. Sixties eyelashes all the way, dude.
I really enjoy that hat, but I must talk about:
MY SHOES. I'm in love. FOr a good shot of them, refer to modcloth link above. They're retro, 60s I guess? I really love them, and they came so quickly. Modcloth.com has really cool stuff. I'm doing my fall shopping there when I get tons of money.
This flower went with my outfit, so I took a picture and edited it to look vintage-y.
Sorry, not much inspiration today, i was just trying to put the tights and shoes together in an outfit. I must get back to Can-cansas, so fare me well on my journey!
So you probably can't really tell how obsessed I am 'till I start raving.
Alexa Chung.
Well, she's definitely someone follow in fashion. A lot. OH COME ON SHE'S SO COOL. Her hair is so pretty, with its little summery waves, like the sea on a breezy-but-not-too-breezy day.
She also seems really real, not caught up in being famous. Which is nice. And she seems so interesting, an' stuff. SO, that is why she's awesome. The dress that she wore to coachella was so pretty, the lace up is the front is adorable.
Remembrance day is something that the British just take to such a level. A good level, but sometimes it makes me, as an American, feel a bit unpatriotic. oh boo. And plus, the poppy is such a striking flower.... so red. It's really a beautiful thing.
THE BLACK ADDER.
Well, oh goodness. if you haven't seen that show, go watch it. no pressure. I'm a big fan of oldish british comedies, like Monty Python (spamalot) and Black Adder. Though I don't actually get around to watching them all that often.
Twiggy deserves a lot more words than I have for her. SHE CREATED SUCH A LOVELY IMAGE. Excuse my over use of capital letters in this post, but she definitely is one of my fashion icons. The hair, eyes, and lashes create something that sticks in your mind forever as the 60s. That's what the sixities are in my mind, that and the beatles. And the stuff she wore was beautiful too. The sixties (you can slap me if I say those two words again) had amazing high necked dress 'n stuff. I AM so glad they are coming back.
Harry, the lightning-headed child. The start of my obsession, he's been with me from first grade, when all I wanted to do was wear my stripy sweatpants and read about harry (well, mostly hermione, really.) Still, I wore my harry Glasses to school and drew lighning blots on my forehead with cherry red marker. When the seventh movie part two ended, I cried for fifteen minutes straight. No joke, really. And then there's this Potter more. Which is so exciting~~
This shirt is amazing, and someday I will get it. Hopefully. Oh please, tell me who could not like that. maybe you, but not me.
Twiggy lashes. ENOUGH SAID.
And a total misuse of the union jack that I felt necessary to put on this post. Alexander McQueen.
There are so many british singers j'adore, but I'll just give you a few more.
Ellie Goulding, the writer, and Pixie Lott, boys and girls.
I saw ellie live, and it was beautiful. I'm waiting for Pixie to come somewhere near me so I can see her in concert.
LAST BUT MOST DEFINITELY NOT LEAST:
Heavy in your Arms by florence + the machine. She's one of my favourite singers right now.
And one more thing that's completely unbritish:
(more like Korean)
is that I'm uber-excited because I found the top Hyuna is wearing in her Bubble Pop music video, the one that says BOY. Very exciting.
So, taking pictures of this outfit was really hard, and they didn't even turn out well. I was resolving to save my lovely high-waisted shorts (which I refer to as "granny shorts") for the first day of school, but alas, resolutions are not my thing. So here they are, in boring black and white-ness, with random Japanese characters mixed in. Woohoo. Also, wait until you see the necklace! It's totally tiny, but I SWEAR I'M IN LOVE.
Inspired by... oxford shoes and Tavi's boy scout shorts.. which are beautiful! Also, old black-n-white fifties photos.
Did I forget the black lipstick? Yeah, well, it's awesome. Thank you grandma.
Crown, thrifted; shirt, gap; necklace, chrlottecharles on etsy; shorts, thrifted; belt, repurposed measuring tape; keychain, gift; lipstick, black radiance; and that little rhinestone heart by my eye, well, I have NO idea whatsoever; rings, gifts.
ON TO MY INSPIRATION.
ohhowienjoymakingmoodboardsontopoffloweryscarves.
No, I'm not a twilight fan, but jeez, it goes with the moodboard, kay? And vampires totally=black lipstick. duh.
What is this, you ask? Could it be...
WHY YES! it is:
TWIGGY!!!
*please ignore my freaky obsession with Twiggy, which will randomly crop up throughout my blog~
You know what everyone needs? A twiggy mask! It's black&white, so it goes with everything!
And red goes with black and white! Always, in my mind. That's why my outfits are so boring. I can't get past that lovely colour combo.
Not to mention they match witchcraft. Paris Vogue '07, I LOVE YOU. they should stock old issues of vogue in bookstores. I'd buy them all. Except for american vogue, maybe.
Oh yes. That star is gonna be on my forehead, first day of school, thanks very much.
So, Good morning, to zilch people. Today's outfits was a cross between Matilda (the movie), givenchy fall 2011, which I LOVE LOVE LOVE, and Prada's banana skirts, and Tavi's LUGZ. I would link you the picture, except then I would have to go through her blog to find it, and that would be too long of a process. Though I do go through her blog more often than I'd like to admit, because it's very interesting and IN-SPI-ER-ING. I know, the banana skirts are overdone, but you have to admit, they're pretty awesome. And about givenchy fall, I think I want everything from that collection. Sweaters with porn on them, and weird motifs? Cutout leopard skirts? It's ahhh-mazing.ANd the cat hats! Those are truly handsome. If I got one of those, I'd wear it every day. (well, probably not, but they are spectacular.)
See? Aren't they just dazzling? Seriously look-worthy.
and now, moi, with my terrible modeling abilities.
I still need to figure out my camera, obviously. The jacket, shirt, scarf, skirt, and shoes were all thrifted, the necklace used to be my mum's, and the socks are from urban outfitters. The ribbon in my hair.. who knows where that came from. Now, are you curious as to the Matilda aspect?... then I will show you bad pictures as proof.
...Then at least make it look cool, like those Rodarte tights. Ah! There was a very successful salvation army trip to-day! One of those tribally-who-knows-how-people-find-stuff-to-match-this-printed skirts was happily waiting for me and saying "I like bananas! and coconuts, and other tropical fruits! I hope you will see it, as soon as I get some pictures-- ones where the self-timer doesn't hate on me. Also, these beautiful (in the most ugly way imaginable) shoes called to me and they are now being worn with my strawberry socks. And a (somewhat boring) black, fake velvet jacket- because I needed a black jacket.
Now, let me fawn over Celine's fall collection. Inspired by cars? Well, I personally don't like cars, but is this collection was inspired by them, I must learn to like cars, just like my friend must learn to like cats. Oh, the wood pattern is so, so good!
Though the shapes weren't incredibly unique, I think if they were more unique, the passive looker-onner would be bombarded with too much wooden texture. And so, this is a win. However, the dress that I'm really here to rave over is this one:
Okay, how famous do I have to be for someone to just randomly give this to me? I love, love, love the blocks o' boring cream. BECAUSE~~~ they make the creamy-ness of it much less boring. Oh, and I totally want that model's hair (cue Willow Smith music video) and the bag! Oh, the bag. So sturdy looking. I wonder what would happen if I took a hammer to it? then again, I could never do that to such a pretty bag. It's so handsome! Honestly, what will I do with you, Ms. Philo! It eees byoooteefulll. Now, after doing terrible things to the English Language, I take my leave! Come back next time for the upcoming installation of: BUTCHERING THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE WHILE GOING COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC FROM WHAT I MEANT TO SAY. Long show title, no?
